- **One connection per location**: Each bucket lives in one location. Add a connection for fsn1, nbg1, or hel1 and group them in a workspace.
- **Keys cover the project**: An S3 key works for every bucket in its Hetzner project. BucketMate keeps it on your device.
- **Public and private links**: Copy public URLs for public buckets and presigned links for private ones.

## Common errors

- `SignatureDoesNotMatch`: The region doesn't match the endpoint, or the secret was copied wrong. Fix: Use the same location for both, like fsn1 with https://fsn1.your-objectstorage.com.
- `NoSuchBucket`: The bucket is in a different location than the endpoint. Fix: Switch the endpoint and region to the bucket's location.
- `InvalidAccessKeyId`: The key belongs to another project or was deleted. Fix: Create a new S3 credential in the bucket's project.
- `503 SlowDown`: More than 750 requests per second to one bucket or from one IP. Fix: Wait a moment and retry with fewer parallel transfers.

## Connect in BucketMate

An S3 access key and secret from the Hetzner Console. The secret is shown once.

1. In the Hetzner Console, open your project, go to Security > S3 credentials, and generate a key.
2. In BucketMate, choose Add connection and select Hetzner Object Storage.
3. Pick the bucket's location, paste the keys, then Test Connection.

On iPhone, Hetzner Object Storage has its own option in the Provider picker with fsn1, nbg1, and hel1.

## S3 compatibility notes

- **64 KB minimum**: Objects under 64 KB are billed as 64 KB.
- **Bucket limits**: Up to 100 buckets, 100 TB and 50 million objects per bucket.
- **Hourly base fee**: The base fee runs every hour you have a bucket, even an empty one.
